# How much does eBay charge to sell sneakers?

**In eBay's two Athletic Shoes categories, the final value fee is 8% of the total sale with no per-order fee when the total is $150 or more, and 13.6% plus $0.30 per order ($0.40 on orders over $10.00) when it's less.** On a $150 pair with no shipping charged and no sales tax, the fees come to $12.00 (8% of the price), so you keep $138.00.

"Total" is what the buyer pays: item, shipping, handling and sales tax. Checked Oct 14, 2026 from [eBay's Selling fees page](https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4822); we re-check it monthly, and eBay can change its rates.

## eBay's rule, word for word

From the "Basic fees for most categories" table on [eBay's Selling fees page](https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4822) (US), checked Oct 14, 2026:

Select Clothing, Shoes & Accessories categories: Men > Men's Shoes > Athletic Shoes; Women > Women's Shoes > Athletic Shoes

> "8% if total amount of the sale is $150 or more. The per order fee is not charged"
>
> "13.6% if total amount of the sale is less than $150"

Insertion fee column: "Free if starting price is $150 or more"

The page also says the fee "is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus a per order fee", and: "For orders $10.00 or less the per order fee is $0.30, for orders over $10.00 the per order fee is $0.40."

## eBay fees on sneakers at real prices

*eBay fees by sale price, sneakers: item price only, no shipping charged. The last column is the same sale when the buyer pays 8% sales tax (an example rate), which eBay counts in the total. Computed with our calculator's code from eBay's fee table, checked Oct 14, 2026.*

| Sale price | Final value fee | Per-order fee | Total fees | Share of price | You keep | Fees with 8% sales tax |
| --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: |
| $60 | $8.16 | $0.40 | $8.56 | 14.3% | $51.44 | $9.21 (+$0.65) |
| $100 | $13.60 | $0.40 | $14.00 | 14% | $86.00 | $15.09 (+$1.09) |
| $140 | $19.04 | $0.40 | $19.44 | 13.9% | $120.56 | $12.10 (-$7.34) |
| $149.99 | $20.40 | $0.40 | $20.80 | 13.9% | $129.19 | $12.96 (-$7.84) |
| $150 | $12.00 | $0.00 | $12.00 | 8% | $138.00 | $12.96 (+$0.96) |
| $250 | $20.00 | $0.00 | $20.00 | 8% | $230.00 | $21.60 (+$1.60) |
| $1,000 | $80.00 | $0.00 | $80.00 | 8% | $920.00 | $86.40 (+$6.40) |

**Lower fees with tax?** At $140 and $149.99, the buyer's 8% tax takes the total to $150 or more, where the 8% rate applies, so eBay's fees go down even though the buyer pays more.

"You keep" is the sale price minus eBay's fees, before postage, the item's cost, insertion fees and any optional upgrades. ## The $150 line on sneakers

eBay charges "8% if total amount of the sale is $150 or more. The per order fee is not charged", and "13.6% if total amount of the sale is less than $150". The line is a total, so one cent decides the rate: a $149.99 sale pays $20.80 and a $150 sale pays $12.00, $8.80 less for a cent more.

- **Shipping counts.** A $140 pair with free shipping pays $19.44. Charge $10.00 for shipping and the total is $150.00, so it pays $12.00.
- **So does sales tax.** At 8% tax, an item price of $138.89 brings the total to $150.00: fees $12.00, against $20.80 one cent lower.
- **The insertion fee uses a different line.** It's "Free if starting price is $150 or more", and eBay's note says "Starting price is the starting price (auction-style listings) or Buy It Now price (fixed price listings) of your listing, and doesn't include shipping, handling, taxes, or fees." So the $140 pair with $10.00 shipping gets the 8% rate, but its $140 starting price doesn't get this row's free insertion.
- **Authenticity Guarantee shipping.** eBay says: "For sneakers sold through Authenticity Guarantee with a free shipping label provided to you, eBay collects a flat shipping charge from the buyer but there is no final value fee charged on shipping." Its fee page doesn't say how that flat charge counts toward the $150 line.

### What item price reaches $150?

*Lowest item price at which the total reaches $150, by the shipping you charge and the buyer's sales tax (example rates, figured on item and shipping as our calculator does).*

| Shipping you charge | No sales tax | 6% tax | 8% tax | 10% tax |
| --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: |
| Free shipping | $150.00 | $141.51 | $138.89 | $136.36 |
| $10.00 | $140.00 | $131.51 | $128.89 | $126.36 |
| $15.00 | $135.00 | $126.51 | $123.89 | $121.36 |
| $20.00 | $130.00 | $121.51 | $118.89 | $116.36 |

You can't pick the buyer's tax rate: it depends on where they are and their state's rules. Only the no-tax column is in your hands, so an item price plus shipping of $150 or more gets the 8% rate whatever the buyer pays in tax.

## Worked example: $140 pair, $12.00 shipping, 8% sales tax

1. Total amount of the sale: $140.00 item + $12.00 shipping + $12.16 sales tax (8% of $152.00, an example rate) = **$164.16**.
2. Final value fee: 8% of $164.16 = **$13.13**.
3. Per-order fee: none (total of $150 or more).
4. Total eBay fees: **$13.13**, 8.6% of the $152.00 you collect for item and shipping. That's $6.31 less than the $19.44 on the $140 price alone: the shipping and tax took the total to $150 or more, so the whole total pays 8% with no per-order fee.
5. You keep $138.87 before postage and the item's cost.

*What you keep after platform fees on sneakers, by sale price; in brackets, the fees. eBay: the saved copy of its fee page, Oct 14, 2026. Poshmark and TikTok Shop: fee pages checked Oct 19, 2026.*

| Platform | $60 | $100 | $150 | $250 | $1,000 |
| --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: | ---: |
| eBay Athletic shoes (men's and women's): 8% at $150+, else 13.6% | $51.44 ($8.56) | $86.00 ($14.00) | $138.00 ($12.00) | $230.00 ($20.00) | $920.00 ($80.00) |
| [Poshmark](https://resellerindex.com/compare/ebay-vs-poshmark-fees/) $2.95 under $15, 20% over $15; buyer pays the label | $48.00 ($12.00) | $80.00 ($20.00) | $120.00 ($30.00) | $200.00 ($50.00) | $800.00 ($200.00) |
| [TikTok Shop (Pre-Owned)](https://resellerindex.com/compare/ebay-vs-tiktok-fees/) 5% of item + shipping, 3% on any part over $10,000 | $57.00 ($3.00) | $95.00 ($5.00) | $142.50 ($7.50) | $237.50 ($12.50) | $950.00 ($50.00) |

- At every price in the table, TikTok Shop leaves the most ($57.00 to $950.00).

- **Poshmark:** Poshmark's shop categories include Women, Men, Kids, Handbags, Shoes and Jewelry & Accessories; Posh Authenticate is free on qualifying luxury orders of $500 or more. ([source](https://poshmark.com/posh_authenticate))
- **TikTok Shop (Pre-Owned):** TikTok Shop's Pre-Owned categories, 5%, include footwear. ([source](https://seller-us.tiktok.com/university/essay?knowledge_id=5988482086864682&lang=en))
- If the buyer pays shipping, eBay's final value fee is charged on it; so is TikTok Shop's referral fee; Poshmark buyers pay for Poshmark's label instead. See [selling fees compared](https://resellerindex.com/guides/selling-fees-compared/).

## Edge cases

- Only the two Athletic Shoes categories are named, under Men's Shoes and Women's Shoes. Other shoe categories pay the most-categories rate, and so does a kids' pair listed outside those two categories.
- **Two pairs in one order:** unlike most rows, eBay's athletic-shoe wording doesn't say "calculated per item", and the fee page doesn't say whether two $80 pairs bought together count as one $160 total. Figured per pair, they pay $22.16 (13.6% each, one per-order fee); as one $160 total, $12.80 (8%, no per-order fee). Our tables are per pair.

## What to do

1. **Pick the category before you set the price.** The rate follows the category the listing is in, and listing in two categories charges the higher final value fee if the item sells.
2. **Price at or above $150 total when you can.** The 8% rate starts at a $150 total, shipping and tax included, and the insertion fee is waived at a $150 starting price.
3. **Set your minimum on the total.** eBay takes its percentage from shipping and tax too, so a price that clears your costs at the item price alone can fall short once those are added. The [eBay fee calculator](https://resellerindex.com/calculators/ebay-fee-calculator/) takes all three.

## Other eBay fees that can apply

- **Insertion fee:** "Free if starting price is $150 or more" for this row, in eBay's insertion fee column. Good 'Til Cancelled listings are charged again each time they renew.
- **Two categories:** a second insertion fee, and "The higher of the two final value fees is charged, if your item sells."
- **Reserve price (auctions):** "$5.00 or 7.5% of reserve price, whichever is greater (maximum fee $250)", charged whether or not the item sells. A $150 reserve costs $11.25; 7.5% reaches the $250 cap at a reserve of about $3,333.33, and a reserve up to about $66.67 pays the $5.00 minimum.
- **Subtitle:** $1.50 on an auction and $2.00 on a fixed price listing at a $150 price (the price break is $150). Bold: $2.00 auction, $4.00 fixed price.
- **International fee:** 1.65% of the total when the delivery address or the buyer's registered address is outside the US, unless you're US-registered and use eBay International Shipping: $2.48 on a $150 sale.
- **Seller performance:** Below Standard sellers pay an extra 6% of the total (7% after four or more consecutive months): $9.00 more on a $150 sale. A Very High rate of "item not as described" return requests adds 5% in the affected categories (6% after four or more consecutive months).
- **Store subscribers, vehicles and eBay Live:** "Fees are different for Store subscribers, vehicle sales, and eBay Live sales." This page uses the basic rates.

## Questions

### How much does eBay charge to sell sneakers?

In eBay's two Athletic Shoes categories, the final value fee is 8% of the total sale with no per-order fee when the total is $150 or more, and 13.6% plus $0.30 per order ($0.40 on orders over $10.00) when it's less. On a $150 pair with no shipping charged and no sales tax, the fees come to $12.00 (8% of the price), so you keep $138.00.

### Does eBay take its fee on shipping and sales tax?

Yes. eBay says "The total amount of the sale includes the item price, any handling charges, any shipping costs collected from the buyer (some exceptions apply), sales tax, and any other applicable fees." A $140 pair with $12.00 shipping and 8% sales tax totals $164.16, and the fees come to $13.13 instead of $19.44 on the price alone.

### Does shipping count toward eBay's $150 sneaker line?

Yes. The line is on the total amount of the sale, which includes shipping and sales tax. A $140 pair with free shipping pays $19.44; the same pair with $10.00 shipping totals $150.00 and pays $12.00. The insertion fee uses a different line: it's waived only when the starting price is $150 or more, and eBay says the starting price "doesn't include shipping, handling, taxes, or fees".
