# Cash App fees for sellers 2026

**Cash App's terms say it charges no fee on sales received through Earn in P2P, its option for sole proprietors to take payments for goods and services in a personal account, so a $25 or $100 sale arrives in full.** A Cash App Business Account pays a processing fee the terms don't print: they say the fee will be disclosed when you open, use or switch to the business account.

From the [Cash App Terms of Service](https://cash.app/us/en/legal/tos) (last updated Sep 11, 2026) and the [Cash App Business Terms](https://cash.app/us/en/legal/cash-payment-terms) (last updated Aug 25, 2025), checked Oct 23, 2026. Moving money out: a standard transfer is free and typically arrives in 1-3 business days; an Instant Transfer costs 0.5%-2.5% ($0.25-$1.00 min, $75.00 max), with the exact fee shown before you confirm. For a business account, read the rate in the app before you take a payment.

## The rules, in Cash App's words

> "We do not currently charge fees in connection with the receipt of Earnings Transactions."

[Cash App Terms of Service](https://cash.app/us/en/legal/tos), "VII.7.l, Our Fees (Earn in P2P)", page dated Sep 11, 2026; checked Oct 23, 2026

"Currently": the same section says Cash App may charge fees after reasonable advance notice. Earnings Transactions are payments you tag "Earnings" in a personal account enrolled in Earn in P2P.

> "This fee will be disclosed to you when you open, use, or switch to a Cash App Business Account."

[Cash App Terms of Service](https://cash.app/us/en/legal/tos), "XI.4, Our Fees for Transaction Processing", page dated Sep 11, 2026; checked Oct 23, 2026

Neither the Terms of Service nor the Business Terms print the percentage, so this page doesn't either. The Business Terms add that Cash App will tell you in advance when it changes its fees. Use the rate your app shows in the calculator below.

> "Designating a payment for goods or services as "Personal" for the purpose of avoiding tax reporting thresholds"

[Cash App Terms of Service](https://cash.app/us/en/legal/tos), "VII.7.d, Designating Earnings Transactions", page dated Sep 11, 2026; checked Oct 23, 2026

The terms call that a violation that may get the account suspended or closed. Tag each sale "Earnings" and each gift or repayment "Personal."

> "Your business can process a refund up to 120 days from the day it accepted the payment."

[Cash App Business Terms](https://cash.app/us/en/legal/cash-payment-terms), "IV.5, Refunds and Returns", page dated Aug 25, 2025; checked Oct 23, 2026

That is the Business Account's limit, from the Business Terms. If the balance can't cover a refund, Cash App can pull it from your linked bank account.

> "The fees are also refunded by the Company, so the full purchase amount is always returned to your customer."

[Cash App Business Terms](https://cash.app/us/en/legal/cash-payment-terms), "IV.5, Refunds and Returns", page dated Aug 25, 2025; checked Oct 23, 2026

That is in the same Refunds and Returns section of the Business Terms: on a Business Account, Cash App refunds its processing fee along with your refund, so a full refund doesn't leave you out the fee. PayPal, Venmo, Square and Stripe each say the opposite about their own fees. Earn in P2P sales carry no fee to begin with.

## Cash App fee calculator

Enter the sale, including any shipping you charge on the same payment.

The calculator needs JavaScript. The tables above have the same fees for $10 to $200.

Earn in P2P (sole proprietors): **fee on $25: $0.00**. You keep **$25.00**.

## Edge cases that change the fee

- **Who can use Earn in P2P:** a verified individual, 18 or older, selling as a sole proprietor, with a full Social Security Number on file. A single-member LLC, corporation, partnership or nonprofit isn't eligible and has to use a Business Account.
- **No SSN on file:** Cash App's terms say it must withhold 24% of a reportable Earnings payment as backup withholding and send it to the IRS.
- **Selling from a plain personal account:** the terms say that if Cash App determines you are selling, it may require you to open or switch to a Business Account.
- **Earn in P2P money is still personal:** "You agree not to use your Cash App Balance as a business operating account." Pay business expenses from somewhere else.
- **Business Account fee math:** the Business Terms (I.6, Our Fees) say Cash App takes the fee when it processes the payment, before the money reaches your balance, and: "To the extent that the Fees are calculated as a percentage of the transaction amount, then we will use banker’s rounding to round up or down to the penny". So an exact half cent goes to the even cent: at an illustrative 2% rate (not Cash App's; read yours in the app), a $26.25 payment's 52.5-cent fee is charged as $0.52, not $0.53. The calculator below rounds the rate you enter that way.
- **Instant Transfer math:** the terms give a range, 0.5%-2.5% ($0.25-$1.00 min, $75.00 max), and say Cash App uses banker's rounding on it. For $100 that's anywhere from $0.50 to $2.50; for $200, $1.00 to $5.00.
- **Chargebacks:** on Earn in P2P you authorize Cash App to take back the amount of a chargeback and any associated fees from your balance; on a Business Account, the Business Terms say a lost chargeback costs the full amount plus any fees. Neither document prints a chargeback fee amount.
- **Buyer pays from a credit card:** the buyer pays Cash App's 3% fee to send it.

## What to do

1. Sole proprietor? Enroll in Earn in P2P in the app and tag each sale "Earnings."
2. Running the business through an LLC or other entity? Open a Business Account and note the rate it discloses; enter it in the calculator to see your net.
3. Use the free standard transfer unless you need the money today, and read the fee on the Instant Transfer screen before confirming.
4. Keep your own record of each sale: buyer, item, date and amount.

## Form 1099-K

The IRS says: "A payment app or online marketplace is required to send you a Form 1099-K if the payments you received for goods or services total over $20,000 in more than 200 transactions." "However, they may send you a Form 1099-K with lower amounts and/or transactions." ([IRS: Understanding your Form 1099-K](https://www.irs.gov/businesses/understanding-your-form-1099-k), Page Last Reviewed or Updated: 28-Jun-2026).

Cash App's terms say the gross amount it counts toward the reporting threshold isn't reduced by fees or refunds, and that it counts by the tax ID on your account. The IRS adds: "Whether or not you receive a Form 1099-K, you must still report any income on your tax return." and "Use Form 1099-K with other records to help you figure and report your taxable income when you file your tax return."

## Questions

### Does Cash App charge a fee to receive money for a sale?

Not through Earn in P2P: "We do not currently charge fees in connection with the receipt of Earnings Transactions." ([Cash App Terms of Service](https://cash.app/us/en/legal/tos), VII.7.l, Our Fees (Earn in P2P)). A Business Account pays the processing fee Cash App discloses in the app.

### Why does Cash App charge a fee for receiving money?

A personal account pays none: Cash App's List of All Fees for Cash App Balance (Prepaid Account) shows "Receive money" at $0.00, and Earn in P2P sales carry no fee either. The fee for receiving money in its terms is a Cash App Business Account's processing fee: "This fee will be disclosed to you when you open, use, or switch to a Cash App Business Account." If Cash App determines you are selling from a personal account, its terms say it may require you to open or switch to a Business Account, which is when that fee starts. An Instant Transfer out, at 0.5%-2.5% ($0.25-$1.00 min, $75.00 max), is a separate fee, and the 3% credit card fee is the buyer's ([Cash App Terms of Service](https://cash.app/us/en/legal/tos)).

### What is the Cash App business account fee?

The terms don't state a number. Section XI.4 says: "This fee will be disclosed to you when you open, use, or switch to a Cash App Business Account." The Business Terms say the same: the fees are the ones disclosed at creation or during use ([Cash App Business Terms](https://cash.app/us/en/legal/cash-payment-terms)). Check the rate in your app.

### Can an LLC use Cash App Earn in P2P?

No. The terms say people doing business through a registered entity, single-member LLCs included, aren't eligible and must use a Cash App Business Account ([Cash App Terms of Service](https://cash.app/us/en/legal/tos), VII.7.b).

### How much does Cash App charge for an Instant Transfer?

0.5%-2.5% ($0.25-$1.00 min, $75.00 max). On $25 that's $0.25 to $1.00; on $100, $0.50 to $2.50. The app shows the exact fee before you confirm, and the standard transfer is free.

### Does Cash App give back its fee when I refund a buyer?

On a Business Account, its Business Terms say yes: "The fees are also refunded by the Company, so the full purchase amount is always returned to your customer." ([Cash App Business Terms](https://cash.app/us/en/legal/cash-payment-terms), section IV.5, Refunds and Returns). Earn in P2P sales carry no fee, so there is nothing to give back. PayPal, Venmo, Square and Stripe keep the fee on a refunded payment.

### How long do I have to refund a Cash App business payment?

"Your business can process a refund up to 120 days from the day it accepted the payment." ([Cash App Business Terms](https://cash.app/us/en/legal/cash-payment-terms), section IV.5, Refunds and Returns). If the business account can't cover a refund, the Business Terms say Cash App can take it from your linked bank account or recover the difference from you.

### Can I mark sales as Personal on Cash App?

No. The terms say "Designating a payment for goods or services as "Personal" for the purpose of avoiding tax reporting thresholds" is a violation of the terms and may lead to suspension or termination ([Cash App Terms of Service](https://cash.app/us/en/legal/tos), VII.7.d).

### Will Cash App send me a Form 1099-K?

When your goods and services payments total over $20,000 in more than 200 transactions in the year, the IRS says a payment app must send one; it may send one for less ([IRS: Understanding your Form 1099-K](https://www.irs.gov/businesses/understanding-your-form-1099-k)).
