# Venmo fees for sellers 2026

**Venmo charges 2.99% when a buyer marks a payment to your personal account as for goods and services: $0.75 on a $25 sale and $2.99 on $100.** A payment to a Venmo business profile costs 1.9% + $0.10 ($0.58 on $25, $2.00 on $100), and Tap to Pay on a business profile 2.29% + $0.09 on Venmo's fees page, though two other Venmo pages print different Tap to Pay rates.

Rates are from [Venmo: Fees with your Venmo Account](https://venmo.com/resources/our-fees), which calls itself a list of all fees that apply to your account, checked Oct 23, 2026, with the [Venmo User Agreement](https://venmo.com/legal/us-user-agreement) (effective Aug 24, 2026) and Venmo's help center. The seller pays these fees.

## The rules, in Venmo's words

> "There's a seller transaction fee when you receive a payment that is identified by the sender as for goods and services."

[Venmo: Fees with your Venmo Account](https://venmo.com/resources/our-fees), "Adding money to your account and receiving payments"; checked Oct 23, 2026

The 2.99% applies only when the buyer marks the payment as goods and services. That mark is also what makes a payment to a personal account eligible for Venmo's Purchase Protection; its agreement says the program doesn't cover personal payments that aren't identified as goods and services.

> "ask your buyer to identify that their payment is for goods and services or have a business profile"

[Venmo User Agreement](https://venmo.com/legal/us-user-agreement), "Opening a Venmo Account (personal accounts)", page dated Aug 24, 2026; checked Oct 23, 2026

Venmo's user agreement says personal accounts may not be used for sales otherwise, and warns that if such a payment is later reversed, you could lose both the item and the money. It also says, in capitals: "VENMO SHOULD ONLY BE USED TO TRANSACT WITH PEOPLE YOU KNOW AND TRUST."

> "you must ship all items within 7 days after receipt of payment"

[Venmo User Agreement](https://venmo.com/legal/us-user-agreement), "Venmo Purchase Protection Program: Basic Requirements for Sellers", page dated Aug 24, 2026; checked Oct 23, 2026

That is one of the seller requirements for Purchase Protection, unless the buyer agrees otherwise in writing. Ship to the address the buyer gave and keep proof of shipment or delivery. Handing the item over in person can still qualify "so long as the buyer paid for the transaction in person by sending a payment to your business profile or by identifying a payment as for goods and services".

> "Venmo users who make a payment to a business profile using a credit card will be exempt from the standard 3% Venmo fee on payments funded by credit cards."

[Venmo Help Center: Business Profile Transaction Fees](https://help.venmo.com/cs/articles/business-profile-transaction-fees-vhel221), "Why doesn't the buyer have to pay the fee?"; checked Oct 23, 2026

A buyer who pays your personal account from a credit card pays Venmo's 3% credit card fee; paying your business profile, the help center says, they don't. Your own fee is the same either way.

> "the fees you originally paid as the seller are not returned"

[Venmo User Agreement](https://venmo.com/legal/us-user-agreement), "Selling on Venmo", page dated Aug 24, 2026; checked Oct 23, 2026

Refunding costs nothing to send, but a full refund of a $100 goods and services sale leaves you $2.99 short. The help center says the same of business profile fees.

Each cell is the fee, then what you keep before shipping costs. Charge shipping on the same payment and the fee is on that too.

## Venmo fee calculator

Enter the sale, including any shipping you charge on the same payment.

The calculator needs JavaScript. The tables above have the same fees for $10 to $200.

Personal account, goods and services: **fee on $25: $0.75**. You keep **$24.25**.

## Edge cases that change the fee

- **Business profile or personal account?** The business profile's 1.9% + $0.10 costs less on every payment from $9.87 up; below that the personal 2.99% can be lower, because of the $0.10 fixed fee. On $5: $0.15 against $0.20. Venmo's business profile page lists no monthly cost.
- **Payments under $1.00:** Venmo's help center says business profile owners are charged for every payment of $1.00 or more, so a smaller payment carries no business profile fee. Venmo's business profile page says "over a dollar" instead, so a payment of exactly $1.00 may or may not be charged; the math here follows the help center.
- **Tap to Pay rate:** Venmo prints 2.29% + $0.09 (Venmo: Fees with your Venmo Account), 2.29% + $0.10 (Venmo Help Center: Business Profile Transaction Fees) and 2.9% + $0.09 (Venmo for Business: Business profiles). On $100 that's $2.38, $2.39 or $2.99. Check the rate in your app before relying on it. Venmo's agreement says Tap to Pay payments aren't covered by Purchase Protection, and that by using Tap to Pay you agree not to "apply a price threshold, higher price or additional fees for a purchase with a card (unless permitted by applicable law)".
- **One Venmo page prints a different business rate:** [Venmo Purchase Protection](https://venmo.com/purchaseprotection) gives 2.99% for business profile sales ($2.99 on $100). The fees page, help center and business profile page all give 1.9% + $0.10 ($2.00 on $100).
- **Chargebacks:** on a card-funded payment to a business profile or marked goods and services, Venmo's agreement says it may assess a chargeback fee. Its fees page lists no amount.
- **Teen accounts** can't receive payments for goods or services, so a buyer can't pay a teen account for a sale.
- **Getting the money out:** the standard transfer is free and typically takes 1-3 business days to a bank (about 48 hours to a debit card). Instant Transfer costs 1.75%, $0.25 min, $25.00 cap: $1.75 on $100.

## What to do

1. Ask the buyer to turn on the goods and services option, or take the payment on a business profile.
2. From about $9.87 up, a business profile costs less per sale: $1.05 on $50 against $1.50.
3. To keep $25 after the 2.99% fee, ask $25.77; on a business profile, $25.59.
4. Ship within 7 days to the buyer's address and keep tracking, so the sale meets Venmo's Purchase Protection requirements for sellers.

## Form 1099-K

The IRS says: "A payment app or online marketplace is required to send you a Form 1099-K if the payments you received for goods or services total over $20,000 in more than 200 transactions." "However, they may send you a Form 1099-K with lower amounts and/or transactions." ([IRS: Understanding your Form 1099-K](https://www.irs.gov/businesses/understanding-your-form-1099-k), Page Last Reviewed or Updated: 28-Jun-2026).

Venmo's user agreement says PayPal reports goods and services payments to the IRS "once you receive at least $600 in payments for goods and services", totaled across "all of your PayPal accounts (including Venmo accounts) associated with the same tax identification number". That is lower than the IRS threshold above, and the IRS says a payment app may send the form for less. The agreement adds that PayPal also reports to state and local governments. The IRS adds: "Whether or not you receive a Form 1099-K, you must still report any income on your tax return." and "Use Form 1099-K with other records to help you figure and report your taxable income when you file your tax return."

## Questions

### How much does Venmo charge for goods and services?

2.99% of the payment, taken from the seller: $0.75 on $25, $2.99 on $100 and $5.98 on $200 ([Venmo: Fees with your Venmo Account](https://venmo.com/resources/our-fees)).

### Why did Venmo charge me a seller fee?

Because the buyer marked the payment as for goods and services, or paid your business profile. Venmo's fees page says: "There's a seller transaction fee when you receive a payment that is identified by the sender as for goods and services." On a personal account that fee is 2.99% ($0.75 on $25); on a business profile, 1.9% + $0.10 ($0.58). A payment the buyer doesn't mark that way carries no seller fee, but it isn't covered by Purchase Protection, and Venmo's agreement doesn't allow sales to a personal account without the mark. Refunding the buyer doesn't return the fee: "the fees you originally paid as the seller are not returned" ([Venmo: Fees with your Venmo Account](https://venmo.com/resources/our-fees); [Venmo User Agreement](https://venmo.com/legal/us-user-agreement)).

### Is a Venmo business profile cheaper than goods and services?

From about $9.87 up, yes: 1.9% + $0.10 against 2.99%. On $100 it's $2.00 against $2.99. Below that the business profile's $0.10 fixed fee can make it the larger fee.

### Who pays the Venmo goods and services fee?

The seller. Venmo calls it a "seller transaction fee" on its fees page. The buyer pays only to send from a credit card (3%), and the help center says not even that when they pay a business profile.

### What is the Venmo Tap to Pay fee?

Venmo's fees page says 2.29% + $0.09; its help center says 2.29% + $0.10 and its business profile page 2.9% + $0.09. On $25 that's $0.66, $0.67 or $0.82. The rate in your app is the one you pay.

### Does Venmo refund its fee if I refund the buyer?

No. Venmo's agreement says there are no fees to make the refund, but "the fees you originally paid as the seller are not returned" ([Venmo User Agreement](https://venmo.com/legal/us-user-agreement)).

### How much is Venmo Instant Transfer?

1.75%, $0.25 min, $25.00 cap: $0.44 on $25, $1.75 on $100. The standard transfer is free.

### Will Venmo send me a Form 1099-K?

When your goods and services payments total over $20,000 in more than 200 transactions in the year, the IRS says a payment app must send one; it may send one for less ([IRS: Understanding your Form 1099-K](https://www.irs.gov/businesses/understanding-your-form-1099-k)). Venmo's agreement says PayPal reports once you receive at least $600. More in [1099-K for resellers](https://resellerindex.com/guides/1099-k-for-resellers/).
