Mercari splits USPS's $50 hazmat fee: sellers pay $25
Since July 12, 2026, USPS has charged $50 when a package of non-hazardous items carries a visible HAZMAT label, often an old label on a reused box. For Mercari packages postmarked from September 1, 2026, Mercari pays $25 and takes $25 from the seller's earnings. To avoid it, remove or fully black out old hazmat labels.

A penalty, not a per-sale fee: -$25 for each flagged package, nothing otherwise.
