There TikTok Shop takes $1.25 (you keep $23.75) and takes the least of all 8 at every price from $1 to $25.89; Depop takes the least from $26.90 (in between, the two tie or are within 1 cent). Amazon media takes the most: $5.55 (you keep $19.45); leaving out Amazon's media-only fees, Poshmark takes the most at $5.00. How each platform charges: rates, fixed fees, shipping and tax

The percentages tell only part of the story. What a fee is charged on (the item, the shipping, the buyer's sales tax) and any fixed fee per sale move the ranking at different prices.

At TikTok Shop's standard 6% rate, TikTok Shop leaves you the most at every price from $1 to $16.41 and Depop from $16.92 to $5,000; in between, the two tie or are within 1 cent of each other. Poshmark leaves you the least at every price from $1 to $7.63, Amazon media from $7.70 to $35.82, and Poshmark again from $36.18 to $5,000; in between, the two tie or are within 1 cent of each other. The buyer pays $5 for shipping and you spend the same on the label, so what you keep is still the item price minus fees. Scanned from $1 to $5,000.

  • TikTok Shop leaves you the most up to $11.41 and Depop from $11.92 (with no shipping: $16.41 and $16.92). The hand-over moves down by exactly the $5, because both take their percentage on shipping too.
  • Amazon media takes the most from $2.70 to $50.82 (with no shipping: $7.70 to $35.82). Amazon charges 15% on the shipping too, while Poshmark's buyer pays the label outside the fee.
  • Poshmark leaves you more than eBay from $13.79 to $16.77, a range where eBay wins with no shipping: Poshmark's fee stays the same, while eBay's 13.6% also covers the $5 of shipping.
  • Whatnot's commission skips shipping, so it leaves you more than Etsy up to $33.44 ($9.82 with no shipping), and more than Mercari up to $4.82, which it never does without shipping.

Which selling apps take a fee on shipping?

On a $25 sale with $5 of buyer-paid shipping: Amazon media +$0.75, eBay +$0.68, Mercari +$0.50, Etsy +$0.47, TikTok Shop +$0.30, Depop +$0.16, Whatnot +$0.14. Whatnot's commission skips shipping; only its processing fee covers it. Poshmark's fee never touches shipping, because the buyer pays for Poshmark's label.

Which selling apps charge fees on sales tax?

eBay charges its main fee on the tax: +$0.27 at an example 8% on a $25 sale. Depop, Etsy and Whatnot charge only payment processing on it (+$0.06, +$0.06, +$0.05). How we compared

  • Fees come from each platform's own US fee page as checked on Oct 14, 2026, run through the same code as our calculators. Each fee line is rounded to the cent, the way the platforms show it.
  • Selling at the same price everywhere is a simplification. Buyers, prices, how fast items sell and shipping differ by platform, and some platforms limit what you can sell: Amazon's fees here are for media only, and Etsy allows only some resold goods.
  • Scan ranges are not listing limits. Apart from Mercari's, we did not check each platform's maximum price, so a comparison up to $25,000 assumes both platforms accept the sale.
  • TikTok Shop is at its standard 6% rate unless the text says Pre-Owned (5%). No optional ads, boosts or promotions unless a note says so. Whatnot is at its standard tier; its rate falls as four-week sales grow.
  • Sales tax appears only to show whether a fee is figured on it. General information, not tax advice: check with a tax pro about your own situation.
