How to cite The Reseller Index
You're welcome to quote our change tracker, price histories and comparisons: credit The Reseller Index and link the page or file. When you quote a platform's fee, a USPS price or an IRS rule, name that official source too. They set those numbers and their pages are the authority; we copy them with a link to the source and the date we checked it.
What we originate and what we report
Part of what we publish is our own work. The rest is a dated copy of numbers that other organizations set.
| What | What is ours |
|---|---|
| Change tracker | Each entry: the dates as we logged them and the summary in our words; for fee and postage changes that have one, the effect on a $10, $25 and $50 sale with its basis written out. Each entry links the official page it was checked against. |
| Price histories | The price periods, the documented gaps and the cross-checks, compiled from archived USPS price lists and other USPS documents. Each price is USPS's, and each row links the USPS document it comes from. |
| Reseller Cost Index | What each platform takes in fees on a $25 sale, computed from each platform's own fee page. |
| Comparisons and calculator results | Side-by-side fee comparisons such as Mercari vs Poshmark, the where to sell ranking and the results of our calculators, computed from the published fees and postage. |
| Numbers | Official source |
|---|---|
| eBay seller fees | |
| Mercari seller fees | |
| Poshmark seller fees | |
| Depop seller fees | |
| Whatnot seller fees | |
| Etsy seller fees | |
| Amazon (media, you ship) seller fees | |
| TikTok Shop seller fees |
|
| USPS prices | the USPS price list, on USPS Postal Explorer |
| USPS mailing rules |
what may be mailed by each service, and size and weight limits |
| Tax rules and thresholds | each IRS entry in the tracker links the IRS page it was checked against |
We aren't affiliated with any of these organizations, and our copies of their numbers aren't official. If our copy and the official page ever disagree, the official page is right; please tell us.
Citation formats
Use the page or file title, its URL and the date it was verified: every page and file shows that date, and numbers change, so it belongs with any figure you quote. The examples cite our USPS Media Mail price history page.

} BibTeX's standard styles print only the author, title, howpublished, month, year and note of a @misc entry and ignore any other field, such as url, or version in the dataset example below (BibTeXing, the BibTeX manual, section 3.1). With one of those styles, copy the URL into howpublished or note.
Cite a tracker entry
Every entry has its own permanent page at /changes/<platform>/<id>/. The id starts with the date the change takes effect (or was announced), then the platform and a short name. Link the entry's page rather than the tracker's front page, and keep the date we verified it (and, when you quote a change, the date it takes effect). Each entry's page ends with a ready-made citation; for the newest entry (effective Nov 9, 2026), it reads:
The Reseller Index change tracker, "Car loan interest deduction: final rules take effect Nov 9, 2026," https://resellerindex.com/changes/irs/2026-11-09-irs-car-loan-interest-final-regulations/, verified Oct 23, 2026. As a one-line credit, and in BibTeX:

} The same entries, each with its URL and verified date, are in /changes.json and /data/changes.csv.
Cite a dataset
Cite the file's URL and the date its numbers were verified: the verified_on field at the top of each JSON file (in /changes.json, on each entry) and in every CSV row. For an exact snapshot, add the file's SHA-256 hash from /data/datapackage.json; the catalog version only tells you which day's data you used.
| Dataset | Files | Verified |
|---|---|---|
| US online selling fees by platform | JSON · CSV | |
| USPS Media Mail and Ground Advantage prices | JSON · CSV | |
| The Reseller Index change tracker | JSON · CSV | |
| USPS Forever stamp prices, 1 oz First-Class Mail letter, since 2007 | JSON · CSV | |
| USPS Media Mail retail prices by weight, 1-70 lb, since 2002 | JSON · CSV | |
| USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate retail prices since 2009 | JSON · CSV | |
| USPS Priority Mail and retail package prices, 8 oz to 5 lb, since 2007 | JSON · CSV |
In the catalog version, the first number (2) goes up when a file is renamed or removed, or a CSV's columns change (added, removed, re-ordered or a new type); the middle number is the newest verified date in the catalog, written YYYYMMDD. Files changed on the same day share a version, so the hash is what pins the exact copy.

} For software and catalogs: /data/datapackage.json lists every file as a Frictionless Data Package, with its sources, size, SHA-256 hash and a Table Schema for each CSV; /openapi.json describes the same files in OpenAPI 3.1; /llms.txt is a short Markdown guide to the site, and /llms-full.txt has the fee tables, the Reseller Cost Index, the USPS prices, the tracker and the price histories in one Markdown file. Each JSON data file listed in the catalog, and the catalog itself, also carries a citation field. Fields and spreadsheet formulas are on the data feeds page.

What it doesn't cover: the rest of the site's text and design (see the terms), and the platforms' names, logos and pages. The fees, prices and rules themselves are set by each platform, USPS and the IRS. We give no warranty, so check the official source before you rely on a number. One request that isn't a license condition: keep the verified date with any number you quote.
Corrections and questions
If something we publish is wrong, tell us on the corrections page, with a link to the official source if you have one. We fix the page and log the fix there with the date, so a citation to an earlier version can be checked against what changed. Questions about citing or reusing our data go through the same form. How we research and check the numbers: about and methods and disclosures.
