The short version

What we collect

Sign-ups on this site. Until our beehiiv sign-up form is live, the sign-up box, the Index Pro form and the Tax Pack form save the following in a private Cloudflare database: your email address, when you signed up, the page you signed up on, which version of the sign-up wording you saw, and your optional answers. Those answers are "What do you mainly sell?" (you can leave it blank), the Pro question, and, on the Tax Pack page, that you said you'd pay for the Tax Pack and when. We don't store your IP address or browser details with it. We move these sign-ups into beehiiv to send the newsletter, then delete your answers and the export file we used to move them. If we copy an answer into beehiiv, it stays there with your subscription until you ask us to delete it. We keep only a short record of the sign-up itself: your email address, when you first signed up, when and on which page you last signed up, the wording you saw then, that it came from our own form, and when we moved it. That record shows you asked for the newsletter, which an email provider such as beehiiv may ask us to prove. If you ask us to delete your data, we delete that record too.

Tax Pack question. If you click "I'd pay $29 if you build it" on the Tax Pack page, we also save that you said yes and when you first said it, in the same sign-up record (your email, when, the page, the wording you saw), with no IP address or browser details. No payment is taken. We use that answer only to decide whether to build the Tax Pack and to email you if we do. It is treated like your other optional answers: we delete it from our own database after we move sign-ups into beehiiv. If we copy it into beehiiv, it stays there with your subscription so we can count the yeses and email you if we build it, until you ask us to delete it.

Newsletter emails. We send the newsletter with beehiiv, which stores your email address under its own privacy policy. beehiiv records whether each issue was opened and which links were clicked, so we can see what's useful and report total clicks to sponsors. Turning off remote images in your email app blocks open tracking. If we add beehiiv's own sign-up form to this site, that form is loaded from beehiiv.

Messages. If you send a correction or a sponsor question, we store your message, the page you sent it from and the email address you give us, so we can reply. We delete messages once they're handled and no longer needed.

Calculators. Calculators run in your browser. The numbers you type aren't sent to us; they stay in your browser's address bar so you can share a calculation. The sign-up box under a calculator can repeat your result. That also stays in your browser and isn't sent when you subscribe.

Sponsor links. When you click the sponsor bar, we record one click for that sponsor and that day, with no information about you, so we can report approximate totals to the sponsor.

Page counts. To see which pages are useful and how people find them, our server adds 1 to a daily total each time a page is viewed or one of our data files is downloaded. There is one total for each combination of these labels: the date; the page's address, without anything after a "?"; a broad visitor type worked out from the user-agent text your browser sends, such as "human", "prefetch" (your browser loaded the page ahead of a possible click), "Googlebot" or "GPTBot"; and a broad source worked out from the name of the site that sent you (or, if your browser sends none, from a link tag naming an AI assistant), such as "google", "reddit", "chatgpt.com", "internal" (another page on this site) or "none". Only those labels and the totals are stored. The page counts don't include IP addresses, cookies, your browser's user-agent text, the full address you came from, the rest of the link, or anything else that could tell one visitor from another. Nothing is saved in your browser, and there is no analytics script. We've also turned off Cloudflare's per-request logs for this site, so we don't keep a log of each visit.

Payments. Sponsorships and the Profit Toolkit are paid through Stripe. We receive what Stripe gives sellers: your name, email, billing country and ZIP code, what you bought, and for sponsors the brand name and link you enter. We never see your card number.

Hosting. The site runs on Cloudflare, which processes standard request data (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site.

What we don't do

We don't sell, rent or share your email address. We don't buy lists. We don't use your data for ads.
