Does eBay charge its fee on sales tax?

Yes. eBay's final value fee is a percentage of the total amount of the sale, which includes the item price, shipping, handling and the sales tax the buyer pays. On a $25 item with $5 shipping, fees are $4.48 with no tax and $4.81 if the buyer pays 8% tax (an example rate). Full explanation.

How eBay calculates its fees

Final value fee is a percentage of the total amount of the sale: item price, handling, shipping charged to the buyer, and sales tax.

  • Insertion fee: 250 free listings a month (more with an eBay Store), then $0.35 per listing.
  • International fee: 1.65% of the total, unless you are US-registered and use eBay International Shipping.
  • Below Standard sellers pay +6% of the total (+7% after four months); a Very High 'item not as described' rate adds +5% of the total in affected categories (+6% after four months).
  • Seller currency conversion charge (only when eBay converts funds for an item listed or sold on another eBay site): 3.25% since October 14, 2026 (was 3%).
