How much does eBay charge to sell bullion?

eBay's final value fee for bullion is 13.6% of the total when the total is $7,500 or less, and 7% of the whole total once it's over $7,500, plus $0.30 per order ($0.40 on orders over $10.00). On a $500 bullion sale with no shipping charged and no sales tax, the fees come to $68.40 (13.7% of the price), so you keep $431.60.

"Total" is what the buyer pays: item, shipping, handling and sales tax. Checked Oct 14, 2026 from eBay's Selling fees page; we re-check it monthly, and eBay can change its rates.

eBay's rule, word for word

From the "Basic fees for most categories" table on eBay's Selling fees page (US), checked Oct 14, 2026:

Coins & Paper Money > Bullion

"13.6% if total amount of the sale is $7,500 or less, calculated per item"

"7% if total amount of the sale is over $7,500, calculated per item"

Insertion fee column: "First 250 listings free per month, then $0.35 per listing"

The page also says the fee "is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus a per order fee", and: "For orders $10.00 or less the per order fee is $0.30, for orders over $10.00 the per order fee is $0.40."

eBay fees by sale price, bullion: item price only, no shipping charged. The last column is the same sale when the buyer pays 8% sales tax (an example rate), which eBay counts in the total. Computed with our calculator's code from eBay's fee table, checked Oct 14, 2026.

Lower fees with tax? At $7,000 and $7,500, the buyer's 8% tax takes the total over $7,500, where the 7% rate applies, so eBay's fees go down even though the buyer pays more.

The $7,500 line: one cent over cuts the fee by $495.00

This row isn't tiered. eBay charges 13.6% "if total amount of the sale is $7,500 or less" and 7% once it's over, on the whole total. So a sale just over the line pays far less than one just under it: $1,020.40 at exactly $7,500, $525.40 at $7,500.01. The final value fee doesn't get back to $1,020.00 until the total reaches $14,571.36.

Don't read it as a tier. On an $11,250 total, eBay's wording gives $787.90 in fees (7% of all of it). Figured as 13.6% up to $7,500 and 7% only on the part above, it would be $1,282.90, which isn't what the row says.

When the buyer pays sales tax, it can take a sale over the line

eBay's total includes any sales tax the buyer pays, so the same price can land on either side depending on the buyer's tax rate. With no shipping charged:

  • At 6% sales tax, an item price of $7,075.48 or more puts the total over $7,500: fees $525.40 on a $7,500.01 total, against $1,020.40 at $7,075.47.
  • At 8% sales tax, an item price of $6,944.45 or more puts the total over $7,500: fees $525.40 on a $7,500.01 total, against $1,020.40 at $6,944.44.
  • At 10% sales tax, an item price of $6,818.19 or more puts the total over $7,500: fees $525.40 on a $7,500.01 total, against $1,020.40 at $6,818.18.

Tax rates here are examples, not a statement that a given sale is taxed: whether the buyer pays sales tax, and how much, depends on their state's rules (check with a tax professional for your own sales). The rate is figured on the item's own total ("calculated per item"); shipping you charge counts toward the line too.

Worked example: $7,000 bullion sale, $30.00 shipping, 8% sales tax

  1. Total amount of the sale: $7,000.00 item + $30.00 shipping + $562.40 sales tax (8% of $7,030.00, an example rate) = $7,592.40.
  2. Final value fee: 7% of $7,592.40 = $531.47.
  3. Per-order fee: $0.40 (the order total is over $10.00).
  4. Total eBay fees: $531.87, 7.6% of the $7,030.00 you collect for item and shipping. That's $420.53 less than the $952.40 on the $7,000 price alone: the shipping and tax took the total over $7,500, so the whole total pays 7%.
  5. You keep $6,498.13 before postage and the item's cost.

Edge cases

  • Coins that aren't bullion pay the Coins & Paper Money rate, which is tiered instead of switching on the whole total.
  • Up to $7,500, bullion pays more than other coins. A $500 bullion sale costs $68.40; the same $500 in Coins & Paper Money (except Bullion) costs $66.65 (eBay fees for coins).
  • Above $7,500 it's cheaper than coins, but only up to a point. Bullion's 7% is on the whole total; a coin pays 2.35% on the part over $7,500. From about $17,581, bullion costs more again: at $25,000, $1,750.40 against $1,405.40 for a coin.
  • Two pieces in one order don't add up to the line. eBay's wording is "calculated per item", so two $4,000 bullion items bought together each pay 13.6% on their own total: $1,088.40 in fees. One $8,000 bullion item would pay $560.40, at 7% of the whole total.

What to do

  1. Pick the category before you set the price. The rate follows the category the listing is in, and listing in two categories charges the higher final value fee if the item sells.
  2. Price near $7,500 with the total in mind. The line is on the total, so the shipping you charge and the buyer's sales tax can take a sale over it. Above $7,500 the whole total pays 7%.
  3. Set your minimum on the total. eBay takes its percentage from shipping and tax too, so a price that clears your costs at the item price alone can fall short once those are added. The eBay fee calculator takes all three.

Other eBay fees that can apply

  • Insertion fee: up to 250 zero insertion fee listings a month (more with an eBay Store), then $0.35 per listing and per category. Good 'Til Cancelled listings are charged again each time they renew.
  • Two categories: a second insertion fee, and "The higher of the two final value fees is charged, if your item sells."
  • Reserve price (auctions): "$5.00 or 7.5% of reserve price, whichever is greater (maximum fee $250)", charged whether or not the item sells. A $500 reserve costs $37.50; 7.5% reaches the $250 cap at a reserve of about $3,333.33, and a reserve up to about $66.67 pays the $5.00 minimum.
  • Subtitle: $3.00 on an auction and $6.00 on a fixed price listing at a $500 price (the price break is $150). Bold: $2.00 auction, $4.00 fixed price.
  • International fee: 1.65% of the total when the delivery address or the buyer's registered address is outside the US, unless you're US-registered and use eBay International Shipping: $8.25 on a $500 sale.
  • Seller performance: Below Standard sellers pay an extra 6% of the total (7% after four or more consecutive months): $30.00 more on a $500 sale. A Very High rate of "item not as described" return requests adds 5% in the affected categories (6% after four or more consecutive months).
  • Store subscribers, vehicles and eBay Live: "Fees are different for Store subscribers, vehicle sales, and eBay Live sales." This page uses the basic rates.
