How much does eBay charge to sell jewelry?

eBay's final value fee for jewelry is 15% of the total when the total is $5,000 or less, and 9% of the whole total once it's over $5,000, plus $0.30 per order ($0.40 on orders over $10.00). On a $100 piece of jewelry with no shipping charged and no sales tax, the fees come to $15.40 (15.4% of the price), so you keep $84.60.

"Total" is what the buyer pays: item, shipping, handling and sales tax. Checked Oct 14, 2026 from eBay's Selling fees page; we re-check it monthly, and eBay can change its rates.

eBay's rule, word for word

From the "Basic fees for most categories" table on eBay's Selling fees page (US), checked Oct 14, 2026:

Jewelry & Watches (except Watches, Parts & Accessories)

"15% if total amount of the sale is $5,000 or less, calculated per item"

"9% if total amount of the sale is over $5,000, calculated per item"

Insertion fee column: "First 250 listings free per month, then $0.35 per listing"

The page also says the fee "is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale, plus a per order fee", and: "For orders $10.00 or less the per order fee is $0.30, for orders over $10.00 the per order fee is $0.40."

eBay fees on jewelry at real prices

eBay fees by sale price, jewelry: item price only, no shipping charged. The last column is the same sale when the buyer pays 8% sales tax (an example rate), which eBay counts in the total. Computed with our calculator's code from eBay's fee table, checked Oct 14, 2026.

$10,000 $900.00 $0.40 $900.40 9% $9,099.60 $972.40 (+$72.00)

Lower fees with tax? At $5,000, the buyer's 8% tax takes the total over $5,000, where the 9% rate applies, so eBay's fees go down even though the buyer pays more.

"You keep" is the sale price minus eBay's fees, before postage, the item's cost, insertion fees and any optional upgrades. Any amount: eBay fee calculator (choose the category) · eBay fees on sales tax

The $5,000 line: one cent over cuts the fee by $300.00

This row isn't tiered. eBay charges 15% "if total amount of the sale is $5,000 or less" and 9% once it's over, on the whole total. So a sale just over the line pays far less than one just under it: $750.40 at exactly $5,000, $450.40 at $5,000.01. The final value fee doesn't get back to $750.00 until the total reaches $8,333.28.

Don't read it as a tier. On a $7,500 total, eBay's wording gives $675.40 in fees (9% of all of it). Figured as 15% up to $5,000 and 9% only on the part above, it would be $975.40, which isn't what the row says.

When the buyer pays sales tax, it can take a sale over the line

eBay's total includes any sales tax the buyer pays, so the same price can land on either side depending on the buyer's tax rate. With no shipping charged:

  • At 6% sales tax, an item price of $4,716.99 or more puts the total over $5,000: fees $450.40 on a $5,000.01 total, against $750.40 at $4,716.98.
  • At 8% sales tax, an item price of $4,629.64 or more puts the total over $5,000: fees $450.40 on a $5,000.01 total, against $750.40 at $4,629.63.
  • At 10% sales tax, an item price of $4,545.46 or more puts the total over $5,000: fees $450.40 on a $5,000.01 total, against $750.40 at $4,545.45.

Tax rates here are examples, not a statement that a given sale is taxed: whether the buyer pays sales tax, and how much, depends on their state's rules (check with a tax professional for your own sales). The rate is figured on the item's own total ("calculated per item"); shipping you charge counts toward the line too.

Worked example: $4,700 piece of jewelry, $20.00 shipping, 8% sales tax

  1. Total amount of the sale: $4,700.00 item + $20.00 shipping + $377.60 sales tax (8% of $4,720.00, an example rate) = $5,097.60.
  2. Final value fee: 9% of $5,097.60 = $458.78.
  3. Per-order fee: $0.40 (the order total is over $10.00).
  4. Total eBay fees: $459.18, 9.7% of the $4,720.00 you collect for item and shipping. That's $246.22 less than the $705.40 on the $4,700 price alone: the shipping and tax took the total over $5,000, so the whole total pays 9%.
  5. You keep $4,260.82 before postage and the item's cost.

Edge cases

  • Watches are carved out: Jewelry & Watches > Watches, Parts & Accessories has its own tiered row.
  • Watches are figured differently. A $2,500 watch costs $247.90 (tiered); a $2,500 piece of jewelry costs $375.40 (eBay fees for watches).
  • The 9% rate isn't always the low one. It's on the whole total, while the most-categories rate drops to 2.35% on the part over $7,500; from about $12,688, jewelry pays more than an item at the most-categories rate.
  • Two pieces in one order don't add up to the line. eBay's wording is "calculated per item", so a $3,000 piece of jewelry and a $2,500 piece of jewelry bought together each pay 15% on their own total: $825.40 in fees. One $5,500 piece of jewelry would pay $495.40, at 9% of the whole total.

What to do

  1. Pick the category before you set the price. The rate follows the category the listing is in, and listing in two categories charges the higher final value fee if the item sells.
  2. Price near $5,000 with the total in mind. The line is on the total, so the shipping you charge and the buyer's sales tax can take a sale over it. Above $5,000 the whole total pays 9%.
  3. Set your minimum on the total. eBay takes its percentage from shipping and tax too, so a price that clears your costs at the item price alone can fall short once those are added. The eBay fee calculator takes all three.

Other eBay fees that can apply

  • Insertion fee: up to 250 zero insertion fee listings a month (more with an eBay Store), then $0.35 per listing and per category. Good 'Til Cancelled listings are charged again each time they renew.
  • Two categories: a second insertion fee, and "The higher of the two final value fees is charged, if your item sells."
  • Reserve price (auctions): "$5.00 or 7.5% of reserve price, whichever is greater (maximum fee $250)", charged whether or not the item sells. A $100 reserve costs $7.50; 7.5% reaches the $250 cap at a reserve of about $3,333.33, and a reserve up to about $66.67 pays the $5.00 minimum.
  • Subtitle: $1.50 on an auction and $2.00 on a fixed price listing at a $100 price (the price break is $150). Bold: $2.00 auction, $4.00 fixed price.
  • International fee: 1.65% of the total when the delivery address or the buyer's registered address is outside the US, unless you're US-registered and use eBay International Shipping: $1.65 on a $100 sale.
  • Seller performance: Below Standard sellers pay an extra 6% of the total (7% after four or more consecutive months): $6.00 more on a $100 sale. A Very High rate of "item not as described" return requests adds 5% in the affected categories (6% after four or more consecutive months).
  • Store subscribers, vehicles and eBay Live: "Fees are different for Store subscribers, vehicle sales, and eBay Live sales." This page uses the basic rates.

Questions

How much does eBay charge to sell jewelry?

eBay's final value fee for jewelry is 15% of the total when the total is $5,000 or less, and 9% of the whole total once it's over $5,000, plus $0.30 per order ($0.40 on orders over $10.00). Does eBay take its fee on shipping and sales tax?

Yes. eBay says "The total amount of the sale includes the item price, any handling charges, any shipping costs collected from the buyer (some exceptions apply), sales tax, and any other applicable fees." A $4,700 piece of jewelry with $20.00 shipping and 8% sales tax totals $5,097.60, and the fees come to $459.18 instead of $705.40 on the price alone.
